The original FreeFly Indy 500

THE RULES: "Open CLASS"
.

The ‘Freefly™ Indy 500’ is a double elimination tournament style event, with two racers and two pylons with camera. The object is to end the race in front of the other opponent, in a safe controlled manner.
The race will be determined on a point system: you will receive 2 points for going through the gate – if you miss the gate you will not be awarded the 2 points; you receive a total 2 points for a perfect lap, 1 point for each streamer eclipse – if you miss a streamer eclipse you will not get the (1) point .

The master pylons will determine the direction of the track, by throwing a coin before the start of each race. Pylons exit from outside the aircraft and racers are inside, front and back position to be decided by throwing a coin.

CESSNA CARAVAN EXIT
For a left hand racetrack: - master pylon will take the front slot facing the tail of the plane and the other pylon, the gate pylon, is rear float facing the propeller. To begin racing, the racers must fly through the gate with their left side closest to the pylon. The gate is the rear pylon and racers must pass in front of him, on level.

For right hand racetrack: - pylon master will take the rear slot facing the propeller of the plane and the other pylon, the gate pylon, is front float facing the tail of the plane. To begin racing, the racers must fly through the gate with their right side closest to the pylon. The gate is the front pylon and racers must pass in front of him, on level.

PILATUS PORTER EXIT
For a right hand racetrack: - master pylon will take the front slot facing the tail of the plane and the other pylon, the gate pylon, is rear float facing the propeller. To begin racing, the racers must fly through the gate with their left side closest to the pylon. The gate is the rear pylon and racers must pass in front of him, on level.

Proof of passing through the gate is to eclipse the camera view of at least one of the pylons. The eclipse can be anywhere from the head of the pylon to the end of the streamer. If the gate is not eclipsed this will result in a penalty – no points! After going through the gate racers have to be on level with the streamers (which are attached to the feet of the pylons) until completion of the race. Proof  is to be eclipsed by the streamer, while you are going around the pylon. If on any turn the racer does not eclipse the streamers -this will result in a penalty – no points! An eclipse can be any small part of the racers’ body.

The pylon master’s responsibility is to set the proper speed and film the other pylon plus streamer,
The gate pylon  responsibility is to stay on level and on heading in front of the pylon master at about 60 feet distance.
Minimum suggested distance to be kept from the pylons, by competitors, is 6 feet. Although no exact set distance is required, in the event that a racer in any way no matter how slight touches or burbles a pylon, the racer will receive a loss for the round.

No grabbing, ramming or hitting is allowed. However, while flying relative to your opponent, brushing the other competitor aside while going through the gate or while going around the track is allowed. You may not make any contact with the pylons; this will result in a loss.

The Race ends at 5000 feet AGL with the pylon master waving off visible in his camera view .
