THE REPORT – SPACE GAMES 15 – 13 – 21 AUGUST 2005
The Space Games 15 are over – we slowly go back into our normal 7 days jumping operation at Skydive Sport Center Tortuga. Quite some people still stay with us to take the possibility to get some coaching from Olav and the Instructors of the 1st School of Modern Skyflying. We are happy to look back to another edition of the famous Space Games which ran great and smooth. It was a wicked event.
The last week before the Games it started to get busy. Last preparations, more and more people showed up already a few days before to use the chance to fly with some friends and new good flyers. Friday we opened the registrations and on Saturday, 13th August 2005 the SPACE GAMES 15 were started with the
original INDY 500 Race.
2 racers – double elimination system.
- INDY 500 Rules (see www.skydivetortuga.com / Olav Zipser 1st School / Space Games / Rules) -
People got really excited after the drawing for the 1st round. The competitors not only wanted to “kick some a…”, but also there was a total of 1.000,-- € and some prizes to get! 22 competitors from 7 different nations entered round one. The Indy was flewn with the open class rules in the beginning. As we got closer to the Final the rounds were done with pro class moves, which means that the racers have to do transitions while racing from one pylon to the other.
The Final Race was done between MIKE KLEIST A46 from Germany and GIANCARLO TRIMARCHI C14 from Venezuela. Pylons were Ale Mooney/Manuel Basso (1st School of Modern Skyflying) Photo / Video by Olav Zipser. It was a very tight exciting race – excellent! Giancarlo won the INDY 500 with an great performance. Check out the photos of the Indy Final in our Foto Gallery on www.skydivetortuga.com
At the same time as the INDY 500 we started the time frame for the
FreeFly 3 way Team and the Freestyle Event.
FreeFly – 3 way Teams (1 compulsory round – drawn prior to the first flight / 1 freeround)
Compulsory round Space Games 15: 1) Foot to Foot 2) Totem 3) 2 way curve head down (2 rotations) 4) 2 way belly star 5) synchronised 360 turn head down
FreeStyle – 2 way Teams (freeround only)
FreeFly / Freestyle Rules - (see www.skydivetortuga.com / Olav Zipser 1st School / Space Games / Rules) –
26 different competitors from 9 nations built different teams to jump through out the Space Games together. The competitors are open to do as many teams in FreeFly as they please as long as they exchange the 2 other team partners. So a really nice mix developed and good people found new team partners to fly with. The results were quite impressive – specially the Freerounds of FreeFly and Freestyle showed the creativity of the FreeFlyers.
The winning team was Skydive Tortuga (Olav, Giancarlo, Manuel from 1st School of Modern Skyflying) who entered the best Freeround and the best Compulsory round. Freestyle was won as well by team Skydive Tortuga. Performer Olav / Video Giancarlo. Olav showed a beautiful performance with 2 streamers in the hands, demonstrating a variety of moves and transitions through this “gate”. A beautiful performance! Here a special thanx to all the competitors for their effort, performance and ideas!!
On Tuesday 16 august the next game was started: The 4 way Challenge – done the 1st time at the Space Games.
A total prize money of 4.000 € was waiting for the 1st and 2nd place!
FreeFly 4 way Challenge: 4 performers 1 videoflyer (freeround only)
This was a highlight for the FreeFlyers as it is often very hard to find 4 other skilled flyers to perform such a freeround with.
18 competitors from 7 nations built 4 different 4 way teams. Competitors were open to join as many teams as they please as long as they change 3 or more team partners.
The result of those jumps was really a pleasure to look at. Most people chose VRW with some innovative figures and nice choreography. In the end the team FreeFly Circus (Olav, Manuel, Stefania, Giancarlo, Mike Kleist) won the gold medaille with an excellent performace. The mix of “Pretty, Funny, Fast” was convincing to the judges. The Team showed a choreography with style, fun, VRW and creative flying together. The next Space Games will include the 4 way Challenge again as it was such a great success and challenging fun for the FreeFlyers.
On Friday 19 August the Flyers were ready and really excited to start one of the most fun games: Bermuda Triangle Tracking Race! Who is faster? Who can cover more horizontal distance?
2 races – single elimination – 1 on 1 race.
Bermuda Triangle Tracking Race Rules (see www.skydivetortuga.com / Olav Zipser 1st School / Space Games / Rules) –
33 Competitors from 11 different nations wanted to know who can fly the furthers horizontally. The spirit of racing came up and people had already fun to psycologicly determine their racing opponent. The 2 racers enter the air at the same time and track along the line of flight they briefed. The parachute has to be opened min. at 1000 m AGL. The final round was done between Olav, Ale Mooney, Fabio Ramella and Bruno Nicoli. Olav could track the furthest and won the gold medaille.
Friday and Saturday were as well dedicated to the judging of the FreeFly, Freestyle, 4 way challenge and the best Creative Video. The FreeFlyers themselves were the judges as the rule of the Space Games is to be your OWN PROUD HONEST JUDGE. It was a lot of fun and uncomplicated. Congratulations as well to Jeffro Provencano and the Flight Club team who won the Video Creativity competition with their unreal video “Cut away” (“poor” jeffro looses a quiz show while flying under canopy. For every wrong answer he has to cut 2 lines with the hooknife … unreal!)
We all enjoyed the Games as well as the evenings and the nights as we had great DJs (DJ HI&HI Andrea from Italy and DJ Richi from UK) and moreover a great VJ (Tony) who played excellent music and showed some wicked video cuts! The Catering offered the best Italian food every lunch and dinner – Thanx as well for this.
The Space Games ended with the Final Party in the Hangar and over in the Camping Area on Saturday. (I am not sure if everybody remembers that though.. ;o) After the award ceremony (10,000,-- € Prizemoney and a lot of Stuff from the Sponsors) we finished the 15th edition of the SPACE GAMES happily and content.
THANX AGAIN TO EVERYONE WHO JOINED US FOR MAKING THIS WICKED EVENT HAPPENING! FLY FREE, HAVE FUN, TAKE CARE AND WHEN YOU ARE READY TO FLY…
… WE SEE EACH OTHER AT SPACE GAMES 16 !
